In situ X-ray scattering is an important characterization approach to study the change of crystal structure and evaluate the associated chemical and physical properties of materials during the reactions. Various sample environments in X-ray scattering experiments have been applied to understand the fundamental aspects of materials in real time down to second regium in fields of electrochemistry, catalysis, synthesis of functional materials and engineering materials. The information derived from X-ray diffraction and total scattering experiments give the opportunity to outline structure-related properties in terms of microstructure, phase change and the presence of intermediates.
