 大容量高圧プレスを用いた高温高圧実験により地球深部物質の相平衡境界の精密決定や物性の精密測定をおこなっています。BL04B1を拠点として研究活動をおこなっています。特に、超音波法を用いた高温高圧下での弾性波速度の精密測定の技術開発や変形実験に関する技術開発をおこなっています。
